Is Ontraport worth it in 2026? Mind the seat cost
Ontraport sells flat pricing over per-seat CRMs. But Basic includes one user and each extra costs ~$552/yr, more than a whole Pipedrive seat. The maths.
Ontraport costs $66/mo billed annually ($792 a year) for Basic, rising to $124/mo ($1,488/yr) for Plus and $249/mo ($2,988/yr) for Pro. Month-to-month those are $79, $147 and $297.
Its pitch, and one of its genuine strengths, is flat per-account pricing instead of the per-seat model that makes CRMs expensive as teams grow. That is true of contacts. It is not true of people, and the gap between those two facts is the most important thing to understand before buying.
All pricing below comes from each platform’s listed plans; verify current pricing on the vendor’s site before you commit.
The seat cost
Ontraport Basic includes 1,000 contacts and one user. Additional users cost about $46/mo each, or $552 a year, per person.
| Team size | Ontraport Basic per year |
|---|---|
| 1 user | $792 |
| 3 users | $1,896 |
| 5 users | $3,000 |
Now put that extra seat next to what a per-seat CRM charges for an entire seat, billed annually:
| CRM | Per user/year | G2 |
|---|---|---|
| Close Solo | $108 | 4.7 |
| Pipedrive Lite | $168 | 4.3 |
| Zoho CRM Standard | $168 | 4.1 |
| Ontraport extra seat | $552 | n/a |
An additional Ontraport user costs more than three times a full Pipedrive Lite licence. The product that markets itself as the escape from per-seat pricing has among the most expensive per-seat pricing in its category. It simply starts charging it at user two rather than user one.
This does not make Ontraport bad. It makes the marketing claim precise in a way the pricing page is not: Ontraport is flat for one person, and steeply per-seat after that.
The comparison that decides it
Ontraport’s honest competitor is not a plain CRM: it is genuinely all-in-one, bundling CRM, visual automation, email and SMS, landing pages, order forms and affiliate management. Comparing it to Pipedrive alone is unfair.
Two fair comparisons exist, and Ontraport loses one and wins the other.
Against a stack, for a solo operator at 1,000 contacts:
| Setup | Per year |
|---|---|
| Pipedrive Lite + ActiveCampaign Starter | $348 |
| Ontraport Basic | $792 |
The assembled stack costs less than half, at matched contact volume. You pay for it in integration work and two bills instead of one, which is a real cost, but $444 a year buys a lot of tolerance for a Zapier connection.
Against the other all-in-one, GoHighLevel:
| Ontraport Basic | GoHighLevel Starter | |
|---|---|---|
| Annual | $792 | $972 |
| Contacts | 1,000 | Unlimited |
| G2 | 4.5 | 4.6 |
GoHighLevel costs $180/yr more and removes the contact ceiling entirely. Ontraport’s plans scale by contact volume, so the moment your list outgrows Basic you move up a tier, and Plus at $1,488/yr is already well past GoHighLevel’s entry price. For anyone with a growing list, the cheaper-looking option is the one that gets more expensive.
Where Ontraport wins outright is against Keap, the other established all-in-one at this level: $3,588/yr, no published annual rate, an implementation fee usually required, and a 3.8 G2 rating against Ontraport’s 4.5. That is not a close contest.
What you are actually buying
The 4.5 rating is earned. Ontraport has been doing this since 2006 and the visual automation engine is genuinely powerful: custom objects, real pipelines, campaign logic that does not fall over when the business is not a straight funnel. Built-in order forms and affiliate management mean an info-product business can run payments, fulfilment and referrals without bolting on a cart.
For the buyer it describes as ideal (a solopreneur or small business selling courses and info products, wanting CRM and marketing in one place), that bundle is coherent and the $792 is fair. One person, one bill, one automation layer, no integration debt.
The listed weakness is the learning curve, and it is the one to take seriously. All-in-one power means all-in-one configuration. A 14-day trial is not long for a platform this deep, and the cost of abandoning it three months in is higher than the subscription, because by then your automations live there.
The verdict
Worth it for one person running a real automated business. At $792/yr for CRM, automation, email, pages and payments in one system, Ontraport is well priced against Keap and against the effort of assembling the same thing yourself, provided you will use the automation engine, which is the only part that justifies the premium.
Not worth it for a team. The $552-a-year seat is the single most expensive line in this comparison, and three or more users makes Ontraport cost more than almost any alternative that does the same job. Its own listing says it is not ideal for teams needing a lightweight contact CRM, and the pricing enforces that.
Not worth it for a growing list. Contact-based tiers mean your bill rises with your audience whether or not you use more of the product. If the list is the thing that grows, price GoHighLevel’s unlimited-contact plan before you commit. The $180/yr difference buys away the ceiling.
Before you trial it, count two numbers: how many people will need to log in, and how many contacts you expect in a year. Both are small, buy it. Either is large, the flat pricing you were sold does not apply to you.
